What’s better than turning a micro investment into thousands of dollars? How about doing it all in under five hours so you still have time to make your dinner reservation? It will be champagne and lobster tonight for musashi_sens from Portugal who survived the turbo-charged, bounty-popping madness of today’s MicroMillions event for a well deserved victory.

MicroMillions 5 Event #71 was one of the more fun events of the series with 5,890 players turning out for the $11 No Limit Holdem Turbo Super Knockout event. Eleven bucks was certainly at the higher end of the buy-in levels for the MicroMillions series, but half of that would be redistributed back into the field as bounties with $5.25 up for grabs for every player eliminated.

The other half of the prize pool was paid out normally with the top 765 players to finish in the cash.

The bubble fell on Germany’s AeronT510 who missed the min-cash by one spot in 766th place, but the knockout format allowed AeronT510 to still pick up four bounties along the way to record a small profit anyway. Interestingly there were six players who landed ten or more bounties each but still failed to reach the money.

The turbo structure ensured that the players dropped away at a rapid rate and it only took four hours twenty minutes to reach our final table. That happened when The Temple55’s A♦ Qâ™  was outflopped by mauavila’s K♣ Jâ™  . The Temple55 finished in 10th place as our final table was set as follows:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: musashi_sens (3,297,632 in chips)
Seat 2: mauavila (3,115,128 in chips)
Seat 3: IAMTHOR89 (1,660,112 in chips)
Seat 4: bertola10 (4,821,288 in chips)
Seat 5: drupa-lucker (2,792,648 in chips)
Seat 6: pinchalujan (3,010,794 in chips)
Seat 7: its nonsence (7,568,610 in chips)
Seat 8: bigkrak (1,957,916 in chips)
Seat 9: AKORJUS (1,225,872 in chips)

The final table blinds kicked off at 125k/250k with a 31,250 ante, so with the chip leader its nonsence holding only thirty big blinds, the players knew they were going to be here for a good time, not a long time.

On the second hand of the final table AKORJUS found a double up, making a flush with ace-nine to trump mauavila’s pocket queens, but it was Australia’s IAMTHOR89 who was first to go.

IAMTHOR89 shoved from early position with A♠ 5♣ with two players trying to claim the bounty as drupa-lucker moved all in with 6♣ 6♦ and its nonsence had them both covered with A♥ J♣ . The board arrived 6♠ 8♦ 3♥ 2♣ 2♥ to see drupa-lucker improve to a full house for a near triple up to eliminate IAMTHOR89 in 9th place for $247.38 to go with 13 KO bounties.

mauavila found a nice double up with pocket jacks against pinchalujan’s ace-six to leave pinchalujan on the ropes. The very next hand pinchalujan moved all in with K♣ Q♥ and its nonsence made the call with A♦ 10♣ . The board blanked out 5♦ J♦ 4â™  5â™  8♣ giving no help to pinchalujan who was out in 8th place. pinchalujan collected $386.53 as well as a tournament-leading 24 KO bounties, which was six bounties more than next best.

At this point a couple of players were starting to get a little nervous at the rapidly rising blinds.

drupa-lucker said, “deal guys?”
AKORJUS said, “yes make deal”
AKORJUS said, “it is lotery now”
bigkrak said, “i will look”

Not everyone was on the same page as play continued and bigkrak moved all in from early position with K♣ 3♣ hoping to steal the blinds. It almost worked, but its nonsence was priced in from the big blind with K♠ 5♦ and made a diamond flush on the board of Q♦ K♦ J♥ 6♦ 8♦ . bigkrak picked up $695.75 for 7th place but had only acquired two bounties, which was actually the lowest of any player who finished inside the top 50.

The action didn’t relent as musashi_sens shoved from the small blind to put the pressure on mauavila:

mauavila held the lead on the flop, but running tens crushed mauavila in 6th place for $1,004.98 plus a handy 17 KO bounties.

AKORJUS was next to go, and it was another fun one that’s best described through animation:

AKORJUS caught good on the flop but the river smacked bertola10 to complete a flush and send AKORJUS home in 5th place for $1,314.20 as well as 8 KO bounties.

There was no time to stop and breathe, but a quick check of the chip counts put musashi_sens out in front with the others hanging on for dear life.

When the big blind rolled around, most of drupa-lucker’s stack was already in the middle so drupa-lucker committed the rest with a rather meagre 9♣ 4♥ after musashi_sens had moved all in on the button. drupa-lucker was hoping for live cards but musashi_sens opened K♥ 4♦ and it only got worse from there for drupa-lucker. The board rolled off J♦ Kâ™  3â™  10♣ 3♣ to pair the king of musashi_sens and eliminate drupa-lucker in 4th place for a $1,747.12 return as well as 11 bounties.

Just one hand later and three became two with the removal of bertola10. With just under five big blinds, bertola10 moved all in from the button with J♦ 10♥ and its nonsence this time made the call in the small blind with A♥ 5♠ . It was all over on the flop of 3♣ 2♦ 4♠ as its nonsence flopped the wheel to leave bertola10 in a world of hurt. The turn was the Q♠ and river the 3♦ to see bertola10 wheeled out in 3rd place for $2,551.10 plus an additional 8 knockout bounties.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: musashi_sens (17,684,052 in chips)
Seat 7: its nonsence (11,765,948 in chips)

It had been a whirlwind ride to get to this point, and the aggression continued as the blinds escalated to dizzy new heights. The first five pots went to musashi_sens before its nonsence found a double up. It wasn’t the most typical all-in hand as musashi_sens applied the pressure with 10♣ 6♣ and its nonsence decided to gamble and call it off with 10♥ 7â™  to surprisingly be in tremendous shape. A seven on the flop was more than enough for its nonsence to double up and claim the lead.

musashi_sens took down the next four in a row, then its nonsence collected the following five before the key hand of the heads-up battle unfolded.

its nonsence opened with a min-raise and musashi_sens moved all in. You could understand its nonsence thinking that Qâ™  7â™  could be the best hand as the call was made, but this time musashi_sens opened Aâ™  8♣ . A board of Q♦ 4â™  A♣ 9♥ J♦ put musashi_sens back in the driver’s seat and it was all over two hands later.

With a stack just over five big blinds, its nonsence moved all in with 9♦ 5♦ and musashi_sens made the call with Jâ™  8♣ . The flop of Aâ™  J♣ A♦ paired up musashi_sens but the 4♦ turn card brought a diamond sweat. It wasn’t to be, as the river bricked the 2â™  to eliminate its nonsence in 2nd place for $3,602.47 plus a healthy 18 bounties. However the final bounty was claimed by musashi_sens who picked up 17 KOs to add to $4,840.94 in prize money and the title of MicroMillions champion. Congratulations!
